LA PORTE COUNTY--- A La Porte County Jail Deputy was arrested Wednesday for her role in trafficking items into the jail.
Heather Lari, 38, who had been employed at the jail since April of this year, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on one count of Trafficking with an Inmate, a level 5 felony, and two counts of Trafficking with an Inmate, both class “A” misdemeanors.
In the morning of August 13 jail officials learned that contraband might be located in a specific cell.
A shakedown was immediately initiated of the cell, and contraband was found.
An investigation later led officials to Lari after it was discovered that the contraband was brought into the jail by an employee of the jail.
A warrant was immediately issued for Lari’s arrest.
La Porte County Sheriff Michael Mollenhauer commended the quick reaction of jail staff in discovering the information.
“This information was quickly corroborated and evidence and contraband was located and confiscated,” said Mollenhauer.
Lari will be transferred to the Saint Joseph County Jail for an added measure of security, and her bond has been set at $15,000.
