Kosciusko Co. officer finds meth cooking in his car

Kosciusko Co., Ind. A domestic disturbance last weekend in Kosciusko County quickly turned into a dangerous situation for the arresting officer, who found meth cooking in a bag inside his squad car.

The officer, Joe Salazar with the Syracuse Police Department, had just taken Allen Holden, 43, to the county jail on Saturday night when he noticed a strange chemical odor.

Thinking it was coming from the jail's intake bay, he pulled out.

But the smell got worse and the back seat began to fill with smoke.

Salazar said a nylon bag in the back seat that he originally thought was the man's clothing burst into flames after he removed it from the car.

The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released for inhalation of sulfuric acid and gas.

Holden now faces an additional charge of manufacturing meth.
