Knox man in court after stealing police car

The Knox man who stole a police car and eluded police for two days back in January returned to court this week.

23-year-old William Blankenship III pleaded guilty on Monday to felony charges of escape and auto theft. In return, prosecutors dropped fleeing law enforcement and criminal mischief charges.

As you may remember, a Kouts Officer had just arrested Blankenship on drug charges when he took off in the squad car still wearing handcuffs. He surrendered two days later.

The plea agreement calls for a maximum six-year prison sentence, and for Blankenship to pay restitution for police car, which was found submerged in a drainage ditch. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 1.
