On Thursday, William Karimu plead guilty to the murder charge relating to the death of Lois Hickey in 2011.
Hickey was found dead in the 300 block of East Donaldson in Mishawaka on Dec. 29 2011. Just over two months later Karimu, who was only 19 years old at the time, was charged with murder, burglary, and felony murder in relation to Hickey’s death.
Officials in St. Joseph County worked to extradite Karimu from the African nation of Sierre Leone, and successfully brought him to the county jail in September of 2012.
After consulting with Hickey’s family, the burglary and felony murder charges were dropped, leaving just the murder count on the table. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2013, Karimu could face 45-65 years in prison.
