A verdict was announced Thursday in the January shooting of a Cass County man.

Kevin Vint of Elkhart was found guilty of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, plus three other felony weapons charges, in the near fatal shooting of 45-year-old Trevor Claire.

According to court testimony, Claire and Vint had a longstanding rocky relationship over a woman.

Jealousy led to tension and threats, which peaked when Vint pointed a laser pistol at Claire's head inside a Mason Township pole barn. But instead of running away, Claire advanced on Vint and was shot twice.

Judge Michael Dodge will sentence Vint September 21. He could spend less than five years behind bars.
