A man arrested in Rockford, Illinois, and charged with a South Bend murder will not be returning to St. Joseph County just yet.
On Friday, for the second time, Anthony Jefferson declined to waive his extradition to St. Joseph County. The county prosecutor’s office says paperwork needed to file a governor’s warrant for extradition has been sent to the attorney general’s office.
More word on that should come by next Tuesday.
Jefferson was arrested at his stepmother’s home in Rockford following a stand-off with police.
He had been on the run since he allegedly shot two men, killing one.
He is also charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of confinement after two separate incidents in St. Joseph County.
Jefferson is scheduled to be in court again on Oct. 28 for another extradition hearing.
