Indiana soldier plans to return to unit after recovery

A Walkerton man, serving in Afghanistan is still in the hospital after an attack that killed two other Hoosiers in his engineering unit.

Specialists Sergio Perez of Crown Point and Nicholas Taylor of Berne were killed on routine patrol in the Kandahar province.

The attack included both rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire.

Corporal Tyler Bowers, who graduated from Oregon Davis High School in 2006, survived the attack with head injuries.

He is serving with the 7-13th engineering company out of Valparaiso.

Bowers mother said that six people have died from this unit, but Bowers plans to return to it as soon as he has recovered.

Only he and an interpreter survived.
