Even with the threat of a government shutdown looming over all of our heads, both of Indiana’s senators were able to make it out to the game Saturday.
Senator Dan Coats and Senator Joe Donnelly waited on the sideline as Notre Dame's marching band took the field.
They were then introduced and walked towards the center of the field with the American flag and they handed it off to Irish guard members before it was lifted.
Both Senator Coats and Donnelly say they are excited to be at the game and have been talking about it all week. Senator Coats even took an early morning plane to get here from Washington.
“I'm really looking forward to doing something other than arguing on the floor of the senate. I'll be there rooting for the Irish and we'll be standing together, republican and democrat, two senators representing our state, both cheering for the Irish,” adds Coats.
“I think the team is going to play great and I am certainly hopeful,” says Donnelly.
A nice day to get away from the stress of Washington and enjoy a game here in the state they represent.
