Immigration reform is hot topic in South Bend

Immigration reform is on the agenda in Washington and community members are making their way to the nation's capitol to speak their minds on the issue.

To rally support for the April 10th excursion, local organizations hosted a Community Round Table, to present reasons to the area's congressional delegation for support of federal legislation on Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Several individuals including immigrants, community leaders and faith leaders participated in the panel. Issues and discussion included a roadmap to citizenship, personal testimony, human rights issues and the future for protection efforts of immigrants.

Participants presented to representatives of Senator Coats, Senator Donnelly and Congresswoman Walorski, all of whom agreed to continue talks on immigration reform in Indiana. Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Councilman Oliver Davis, also participated in the round table.

The Community Round Table was sponsored by Coalition for Immigration Reform: Americans for Democratic Action, North Central Indiana AFL-CIO, St. Joseph Valley Project-Jobs with Justice, Transforming Action through Power (TAP), Let's Move Michiana, MoveOn.Org Michiana, and Community Forum for Economic Development.
