IUSB recital hall prepares for $1.8 million renovation

The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at Indiana University-South Bend will see some big changes over the next year, thanks to a $1.2 million gift.

The $1.8 million total project includes a renovation of the entire recital hall and lobby area. That means new seats, an extended stage, state-of-the-art technology, recording devices and a brand new name.

The space will now be called the Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall, in honor of the foundation providing the gift. The renovations were made possible by the Georgina Joshi Foundation, to honor the life and vision of Louise and her daughter Georgina, who performed at the original hall.

Faculty say the 224-seat performance hall will be a "world class venue" for student performances. Those involved hope the upgraded facility will draw in new students and provide a new, more comfortable facility for community members.

The public is invited to take part in the renovations. If you would like to contribute to the project by providing a gift of $275 or $500, your name will be engravged on a brass plate on the back of any of the seats in the first three rows. Contact Dina Harris at (574) 520-4131 or diharris@iusb.edu

The project is set to begin in May of 2013, and conclude by spring of the following year.
