It was an exciting and emotional day at IU South Bend as more than 200 friends, family, faculty, staff and more welcomed their 5th chancellor, Terry Allison.
The installation ceremony started around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie led the ceremony. Following him they had several other speakers from faculty, staff and even the students.
Speakers say ever since Allison has arrived in South Bend about three months ago and started July 1st, he has submerged himself in the community and in the school with the goal of making a difference.
They say the future is bright with him coming in and he has an excitement and an energy that comes with his leadership.
“Terry is highly respected by colleagues at the previous institution he has served and he has consistently demonstrated his commitments to excellence in the academic enterprise,” says Indiana University Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs, John Applegate.
“I promise to lead by example, share information widely and so broadly and share how I arrive at decisions that only I can make. I commit to be fully present and engaged. I will place all of my energies into becoming an increasingly effective chancellor and leader within Indiana University and for the broader region this campus serves,” says Chancellor Terry Allison.
The ceremony lasted for about an hour and a half. After, folks took part in a reception to celebrate Chancellor Terry Allison.
