Hundreds walk with Gov. Pence in Mishawaka

Mishawaka, Ind. Hundreds walked in Mishawaka Wednesday morning along the St. Joseph River.

They were led by Indiana Governor Mike Pence and his wife Karen, in what they call "Walk a Mile with Mike."

It's been a summer-long effort to get Hoosiers all over the state active and interested in community resources.

Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and several other state leaders joined the pack of area school kids and community members.

Pence said his goal is to get more people to realize the importance of daily exercise.

"Too many Hoosiers struggle with obesity and the malities that come with that, be it diabetes or heart disease, so our administration has made a very specific goal of focusing on policies and practices that will encourage and strengthen the health of Hoosiers," explained Pence.

The governor plans to continue walks like these throughout the state.
