Hundreds attend LaPorte Co. leprechaun hunt

LaPorte Co., Ind. Although St. Patrick's Day has already passed, hundreds of folks are trying to find a leprechaun.

The 19th Annual Family Fun Day and Leprechaun Hunt opened early this afternoon at the sharing meadows community in LaPorte.

Thirty three leprechauns were hidden throughout the 185 acres, some ranged from $50 to $1,500.

But there's something more than just finding leprechauns, it was a fundraiser to help handicapped adults.

"Oh this is just a great show of support. It shows us that people care about sharing meadows and what happens here,” said executive director Kathleen Kelly. “Certainly the money that earned. It's a fundraiser. And its ten percent of our yearly budget is earned today during the leprechaun hunt."

Last year only four leprechauns were not found.

Organizers expected around 7,000 participants to search for their treasure.
