Wednesday's estimated Powerball jackpot is a $250 million prize. And the Hoosier Lottery gave Indiana players the chance to win for free.
Starting at 6AM, Hoosier Lottery employees were giving away free ($2 value) powerball tickets at the KB Express Mart on Dixie Way in South Bend. Players had to be 18 years and older to receive one free ticket.
Al Larsen, the Public Relations Manager for the Hoosier Lottery says, ticket giveaways like this happen when the jackpot gets bigger to add excitment and fun to the lottery. Larsen says jackpots are important to the state because a lot of people play, and for every ticket they buy, that means a bigger profit for the lottery, which translates into dollars for taxpayers.
Greg, a previous lottery winner from South Bend told Newscenter 16 on Wednesday morning that "ordinary people can win." He was a winner during the 2nd Chance Drawing in Indianapolis at a Colts Game.
The Powerball drawing will take place Wednesday night.
