Civil War scholars and authors are coming together for a day of education and commemoration at the Michigan Historical Center.
The Michigan Civil War Symposium will be held April 6. It will feature a number of speakers on topics, including Michigan's role in the Civil War and women in the conflict.
Expected speakers at the event include Jack Dempsey, author of "Michigan and the Civil War: A Great and Bloody Sacrifice," and historian David Finney.
The event is part of a series by the Friends of Michigan History Inc. to commemorate the war's 150th anniversary. The organization in June will present a free concert series at the State Capitol featuring music of the Civil War.
