A terrible motorcycle crash in Kosciusko Co. Tuesday afternoon sent an Etna Green man to the hospital via helicopter to treat his injuries.
Emergency personnel and deputies from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. responded to a reported crash on S.R. 15 at the intersection of C.R. 200 South at 2:21 p.m. April 9.
When they arrived at the scene of the crash, they found a Harley Davidson motorcycle had crashed into the rear end of a Cadillac, and the motorcycle’s driver lying on the ground nearby in respiratory distress.
E.M.S immediately called a medical helicopter to the scene to take the motorcycle driver, identified as Richard Lattea, 46, to a Fort Wayne hospital. The helicopter landed in the front of Warsaw Community hospital and quickly assisted Lattea who suffered a collapsed lung in the crash.
The preliminary investigation by the Kosciusko Co. crash investigation team determined Lattea was driving northbound on S.R. 15 behind the Cadillac when the Cadillac’s driver, Lana O’Connell, 61, slowed down as she approached the intersection with C.R. 200.
Lattea’s Harley struck the rear of the car, knocking him onto the ground. While Lattea was in serious condition as he was airlifted to the hospital, O’Connell was not injured in the crash.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. and crash investigation team were also assisted by the Warsaw-Wayne Twp. Fire Dept..
