Hearing to resolve water woes from closed ethanol plant

South Bend city officials are in the process of finding a solution to the water woes that have plagued residents living near the bankrupt New Energy Plant.

The ethanol plant pumped millions of gallons of water out of the ground each and every day, and while the plant was operational it effectively lowered the water table in the surrounding area.

Since the plant shut down in November 2012 the water table has risen, resulting in flooding in a number of nearby homes along Calvert St.

Residents will have the opportunity to share their concerns at a public meeting Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Rum Village Nature Center.
