Hearing set for Benton Harbor financial proposal

Residents of Benton Harbor will be able to weigh in next week on a new special assessment proposed by their Emergency Financial Manager.

According to the Herald Palladium, Benton Harbor’s Emergency Financial Manager Joseph Harris proposed the special assessment after two millages that compose over one million dollars of the city’s tax revenues failed on Election Day.

The public may fight back on the proposal if they can garner enough signatures of people who altogether own at least 10 percent of the land in the district.

The meeting is set for next Tuesday, December 4, at 6 p.m.
