Frequent patrons of the Lerner Theatre in Elkhart may need to give their banks a call after the venue’s ticket system provider may have been hacked.
According to the Elkhart Truth, the theater’s system provider, Vendici Inc., reported that a “third-party criminal actor” may have stolen customer’s information and personal data in late March. It was not until April 25 that the company detected the unauthorized activity in its database. The company says the possible breech may have compromised customers’ mailing addresses, email addresses,
home phone numbers and credit card numbers with expiration dates.
The Lerner says it appears that only a small percentage of its patrons may be vulnerable. It is working closely with federal law enforcement to launch an internal investigation, using outside computer and forensic cyber security experts.
In the meantime, customers have been advised to review their credit card records for any suspicious and unauthorized use. Those believed to have been victimized are asked to contact local law enforcement, state attorney general’s office and the Federal Trade Commission.
