ELKHART, Ind. -- Devoted parents and supporters of the group Yes for Concord Kids! were rallying support Saturday morning at Concord Mall.
It was part of their final push before an upcoming referendum.
Members handed out lawn signs and door hangers.
Concord Community Schools, like Elkhart schools, have made major cuts to transportation and other programs to make up for lost tax income.
If passed, the referendum would temporarily increase property taxes.
“Not everybody wants their taxes to go up,” Wayne Stubbs, Concord Community Schools Superintendent said, “I understand that and respect that, at the same time we don't want the quality of our schools to drop because that continues to make our community strong.”
The referendum will be held on May 6.
