"Green" company announces Elkhart expansion

An additional 75 new jobs are coming to Elkhart after a “green” manufacturing company announced plans to expand local operations.

Smart Cabinetry, a green kitchen cabinet manufacturer, says it plans to invest 11.4 million dollars to renovate and equip its facility in New Paris. Part of the project will include adding new kitchen cabinet manufacturing, finishing, and assembly lines by 2015.

The company currently employs 100 Indiana residents, and with markets getting stronger the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Kirk Barron says they “look forward to working with both state and local governments to create jobs and continue the momentum we started three years ago.”

Governor Mitch Daniels announced his delight that Smart Cabinetry was the second company to announce expansion plans today.

“Our pro-growth business climate and skilled workforce continue to give us a competitive advantage, and we have no plans of slowing down,” says Daniels.

Earlier today, the steel pars galvanizing manufacturer, Indiana Galvanizing, said it will invest 3 million dollars in its Middlebury facility, adding up to 60 new jobs and renovating the building.
