GOSHEN Train whistles may soon go silent at the tracks along a Goshen Street.

The city council approved upgrades at six crossings along 9th Street.

Those upgrades bring the crossings closer to standards required for quiet zone train crossings -- meaning trains will not have to blow their whistles as they approach the intersections.

According to The Elkhart Truth, the city applied for federal grants to cover 90 percent of the upgrades. Goshen will cover the additional $176,000.
