Funeral arrangements made in fatal Lakeville crash

A deadly crash this week in St. Joseph County claimed the life of a man who was dedicated to serving our community.

The victim, 28-year-old Danny Cox, was a reserve officer for the Lakeville Police Department, and also worked at the hilltop restaurant on South Michigan Street.

Before that, he volunteered for many years at the Madison Township Fire Department. The lifelong area resident is described as a "loving son, wonderful brother and loyal friend."

The crash happened around 2:45 Thursday morning in the 67000 block of Lake Trail.

Police say Cox lost control behind the wheel, and slid off the road. His silver four-door Saturn eventually came to a stop after slamming into a large tree. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was inside the vehicle.

An autopsy and toxicology tests are now being conducted as the investigation continues.

Visitation is scheduled for this Sunday from three to seven p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home in Lakeville. Funeral services will also be held there at 10:30 Monday morning. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
