Recent weather forecasts are predicting freezing rain to move across Central and Northern Indiana starting Sunday morning and continuing into the afternoon, resulting in icy roadway conditions.

Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) say most interstates, U.S. highways, and other state roads were pre-treated with salt from the snowstorm on Friday.

INDOT says it has sent out dozens of plows and salt trucks to make sure the roads are prepped and ready for the upcoming storm.

Anyone taking to the road during wintry weather should make sure to be on alert, as freezing rain and ice can be the most difficult conditions to drive in regardless of whether a vehicle is equipped with four-wheel drive.

Drivers are also being encouraged to avoid any non-essential traveling when ice is forecasted to accumulate on the roads. INDOT says ice affects vehicles of all size, even trucks and plows.
