SOUTH BEND An end to the school year doesn't have to mean an end to the food supply for Michiana families who depend on daily meals. School districts with at least 50% of the student body on free or reduced lunch are eligible to sponsor the USDA Summer Feeding Program.
South Bend Community Schools have nearly 73% eligibility for free or reduced lunch. In 2014, organizers for the summer feeding program opted to boost the number of sites from 45 closer to 50. Two new additions are a church on York Road and the YMCA on Northside Boulevard.
Students 18 and under are eligible for free lunch and at some sites, breakfast and a snack. For a full list of South Bend sites, dates and times, click here.
