Free event tackles new cancer screening recommendations

MISHAWAKA This week, the Cancer Care Partners of the South Bend Clinic will host an event to provide the community with more information on how to catch cancer early.

It's the first of three lectures in the series Early Detection Makes a Difference, and it will happen Wednesday in Mishawaka. Experts will be on hand to talk about screening guidelines for colon, breast and cervical cancers.

Doctor Rudolph Navari is the associate dean and director of the IU School of Medicine South Bend. He says screening guidelines for things like mammograms, HPV and cervical cancer have changed dramatically in recent years, and the event will help folks understand the new recommendations.

All of the events will be held at the Cancer Care Partners offices, located at 301 E. Day Road in Mishawaka. They each run from 7 – 8:30. Dates and subjects are as follows:

  • Breast and cervical screenings
    Wednesday, September 11

  • Colon screenings
    Wednesday, October 9

  • Prostate screenings
    Wednesday, November 6
