A former Notre Dame Assistant Football Coach enters a guilty plea in court Thursday morning.
Corwin Brown entered a guilty but mentally ill plea.
He faces two Class D Felonys, facing a maximum of six years in prison.
The charges stem from last summer when the former Notre Dame Assistant Football Coach hit his wife and held her hostage in their Granger home.
His family originally said actions might have stemmed from brain trauma he suffered while playing NFL football.
A mental evaluation reportedly resulted in a split opinion and Brown's attorney wouldn't comment on his condition after the plea was entered.
“A plea of guilty but mentally ill acknowledges that there is mental disease or defect,” explains defense attorney Mike Tuszynski. “That is significant enough that the law should recognize it as a mitigating circumstance with respect to the offense.”
Brown was charged with confinement and domestic battery.
It's likely with the plea Corwin's defense will ask that his sentence be suspended.
The sentencing date is set for August 21st.
