Former town clerk in court Friday morning

St. Joseph County, Ind. A former elected Roseland official accused of using taxpayer dollars to pay her rent was back in Saint Joseph County Court Friday morning.

Susan Hammons, the former town clerk, is charged with two felony counts of theft and one for official misconduct after an audit showed town funds were used on a personal residence over a two month period.

Friday, Hammons was supposed to find out her sentence, but instead, the judge delayed the hearing until October.

Hammons' lawyer and the prosecution couldn't agree on whether her three charges should be tried separately. She will be back in court October 4.
