UPDATE: Former Roseland Town Clerk charged with using public funds

Former Roseland Town Clerk Susan Hammons was charged Tuesday with using funds drawn out of the town bank account to pay the rent for her personal residence.

Hammons resigned from office in September of 2011, after she was criticized in an audit by the Indiana State Board of Accounts.

The resignation came too late in the election cycle to remove Hammon’s name from the ballot, and she was technically re-elected.

Hammons caused a stir when she demanded to be sworn back into office in January of 2012.

The charges filed Tuesday stem from activity that allegedly took place in 2009.

Hammons faces three felony counts of theft.

Hammons has not yet been arrested or booked at the St.Joseph County Jail but her bond was set at $2,500 cash.
