Elkhart, Ind. Formal charges have been filed against a 16-year-old Elkhart boy accused in a drive-by shooting last weekend that left another teen dead.

That's according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

Jesus Macedo-Perez has been charged with murder in the death of 16-year-old Braxton Barhams. The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office is also seeking to add a criminal gang enhancement, according to court files.

Barhams was gunned down in broad daylight last Saturday in the 200 block of West Garfield Avenue. That's just southeast of Downtown Elkhart.

Police found the teen lying in a yard behind a wooden fence where he'd reportedly run to escape the shooter. Barhams was pronounced dead at Elkhart General Hospital.

Macedo-Perez is currently being held in the Elkhart County Jail without bond. His initial hearing is set for Thursday morning.

Meantime, a vigil for Barhams will be held at 7:30 Thursday night in the parking lot of Concord High School. Those planning to attend are asked to bring candles.
