Just one day from the July 4, Independence day, Michiana can expect more American flags to fly high. A flag sit also took place all day on State Road 933 right by Holy Cross.
The people were waving the flags is in honor of this country, the troops serving overseas, but also for brother Edward Courtney.
He sat at this location for eleven years, protesting the Supreme Court's decision that flag burning is a First Amendment right.
Brother Courtney did not agree with that, so he decided to protest, Gaining a lot of attention.
"People would stop and talk to him,” said one flag waiver Carol Napoli. “So he saw that he was doing something to stand up for what he believed in for our country and our flag. But also that one person can make a difference.”
In all, about 35 people took different shifts to wave flags today.
