Everyday police officers and firefighters risk their lives to keep their community safe.

But on Friday, the community was giving back to them.
Hundreds of our local heroes were honored during the 15th annual Police and Fire Appreciation Day at Central Fire Station.

Local dignitaries served meals to South Bend police and firefighters, along with St. Joe County officers.

Organizers say the yearly event is just a small way for them to say "thanks" to the men and women who keep us safe 24 hours a day.
