Firefighters investigating cause of house fire in Mishawaka

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a Mishawaka house fire that killed a pet trapped inside.

Around 7:30 Saturday night, police and fire crews were called to the 600 block of West Eisenhower Drive, just off Grape Road.

Investigators believe the blaze started inside one home, and then spread to another next-door.

No one was inside either home when the fire broke out, but a dog inside the first house didn't make it out alive. A Mishawaka firefighter was also hurt on the scene, when he twisted his knee.

The fire remains under investigation.
