Elkhart, Ind. Emergency crews had a busy morning battling a fire that tore through a two-story home in Elkhart. It broke out just before 8:45 in the 500 block of South Sixth Street, just west of Downtown Elkhart.
The house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene, forcing them to evacuate residents living in nearby homes as a precaution.
According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the structure housed three apartments, two on the first floor, where the fire reportedly started, and the other on the second floor.
Thankfully, no one was inside at the time, and neighbors say the home is currently vacant. Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
