A local woman accused of leaving her newborn baby in a dumpster has now been charged with feticide.

Purvi Patel, 32 years old at the time, was initially charged only with neglect of a dependent.

She was allegedly seven months into her pregnancy when she took drugs to end it. The child was born alive.

The child's body was found in a dumpster behind her family's restaurant back in July of 2013.

In court documents dated Thursday, August 21, the following charge was stated:

PURVI PATEL did knowingly terminate a human pregnancy with the intention other than to produce a live birth or to remove a dead fetus, and the conduct of PURVI PATEL was not an abortion performed in compliance with I.e. 16-34.

The new jury trial is expected to begin Sept. 29.
