Women throughout Michiana are coming together to celebrate their passion for a popular pastime, bicycling. Dozens have become members of 574 Cycling, an all female cycling club that formed this past winter.
The group joined with three goals in mind: to share a love for bicycling with the community, encourage women of all ages to embrace healthier lifestyles, and help make bicycling on the road a safer activity for all.
The club is getting ready to hold a series of practice races called the Tire Rack Race Series. The first race takes place Monday, May 20 at the Tire Rack in South Bend starting around 6:30 p.m.
Monday’s race course is approximately a 14 mile loop, ending on the Tire Rack test race. Riders will leave in self-seeded categories: Junior, Beginner Women, Experienced, Beginner Men, or Experienced Men.
Despite being an all female group, 574’s Tire Rack Practice Series is open to anyone, including men. Two other practice races will also take place at the beginning of June.
Practice races allow cyclists to learn how to race on the road without the stresses of a competitive race.
Pricing and further details about this upcoming race series can be found at 574 Cycling’s website.
