More construction options are being presented to neighbors living along Fellows Street in South Bend.

Tuesday evening, it was standing room only at a public hearing.

More than six alternative solutions were presented by South Bend's Economic Development Department.

For the past six weeks, the city has been working on different ways to re-route traffic along Fellows Street. That is expected to increase from U.S. 31 once it becomes a highway.

In the first proposed project, 30 properties were going to be taken but after an outcry from the neighborhood new options are now being presented.

“To start off we always look at the option of do nothing, of course the do nothing but the do nothing option does not address the primary issues of additional traffic of the U.S. 31 property, you will see increase in traffic since intersection is not adequate to handle that traffic,” said Jason Durr, of Burke Engineering.

No decisions by the redevelopment commission were going to be made at Tuesday’s meeting.

It was only a public meeting, so that people could see some of the new plans being presented.
