Fatal crash in Berrien County Friday morning

One person is dead after a fatal accident early Friday morning in Berrien County.

It happened around 5:30 Friday morning on US 12 between Red Bud Trail and Mayflower in Bertrand Township.

According to the Berrien County Sheriff's Department, a 28-year-old man from Klamath Falls, Oregon was driving a pickup truck westbound. He crossed the center line and struck an eastbound car driven by Lorelei Kickels of Dowagiac, Mich. Kickels was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

A motorcycle was unable to stop and avoid the two vehicles in the roadway. The driver of the motorcycle was also taken to the hospital.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

US 12 was closed for nearly four hours while officials investigated the crash and crews cleared the road.
