Niles mom dies in accident, family holds fundraiser to help with funeral expenses

A Niles teen died in a single car accident last week, leaving a behind a one-year-old son and a large extended family.

Monday afternoon family members held a carwash in Niles to help raise money for funeral expenses.

Dajauna Davis, 19, died Wednesday in a car accident.

She was coming home from a hair show when police says she lost control of her vehicle and hit a tree. The single mom was enrolled in cosmetology classes and always wanted to be a hairdresser.

Her family says they'll help take care of her baby boy.
“We lost somebody that was very special to the whole community,” says Davis’ aunt, Debra Jones. “The whole community is touched by this loss.”

On Wednesday there will be a candlelight vigil at the scene of the accident.
Donations are being accepted at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Niles in care of Pastor Bryant Bacon.
