Indiana State Excise Police officers working the races and concerts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway arrested 18 people on 20 charges Saturday night.

Indiana State Excise Police officers working the races and concerts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway arrested 18 people on 20 charges Saturday night.

Excise officers were working the NASCAR Nationwide race events and the Brickfest Music Festival concerts at the venue this weekend.

According to a release from ISP majority of those arrested were charged with alcohol and drug-related offenses.

16 – Illegal Possession or Consumption of Alcohol
1 – Possession of Heroin
1 – Possession of a Controlled Substance
1 – Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor
1 – Possession of False Identification

One man, 38-year old Robert Penrod, of Indianapolis, was put in jail on preliminary charges of possession of heroin and possession of prescription medications. A plainclothes officer saw Penrod using a rolled up dollar bill to snort heroin in the passenger seat of a truck.
