LAKEVILLE This week, the St. Joseph County Police Department is getting close to the community and promoting safety with a little bit of free entertainment.
The 3rd Annual National Night Out Against Crime takes place this Tuesday. They’ll have demonstrations about car seats, neighborhood watch, fingerprint cards, as well as home and personal safety. Plus there are free carnival rides, raffle prizes, games, giveaways and free food from Krispy Kreme, Hacienda, Kona Ice and more.
One goal of the event is to start a conversation between the community and law enforcement, so that they can help each other get crime out of Michiana neighborhoods.
“It’s to come together and build a partnership with our community – let them know we’re here for them, show them how we keep them safe and the ways they can keep themselves safe,” St. Joseph County Sheriff Mike Grzegorek says.
More than 3,000 people attended in the last two years, and attendance keeps on building.
