An Elkhart teen accused of torturing a pit bull puppy by throwing a firework at the dog has now been waived to adult court.

On Monday morning, a judge decided to remove Marquis Gary, 16, from the juvenile system after an evidentiary hearing on Friday.

Gary now faces charges in adult circuit court, including an armed robbery charge and cruelty to an animal.

Back in July, court documents say Gary threw a lit firecracker at a female pit bull, allowing her to pick it up like a toy when it exploded in her mouth. She was immediately euthanized once she was picked up by the Elkhart County Humane Society.

Gary’s bond is set at $55,000.
