ELKHART, Ind. -- Fixing potholes is coming at a steep price in Elkhart.

Road repairs could cost the city as much as $3 million, according to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore said the city normally spends about $1 million on pothole and paving projects.

But the freeze and thaw pattern we had this winter left extreme damage on some stretches of roadway.

The additional costs are estimated to be $2 million.

City officials are still working to create a plan to fund all the repairs.
