Elkhart, Ind. - An elderly man will spend more than a year behind bars for failing to register as a sex offender.

Frank Piatek, 72, of Elkhart, was sentenced to 15 months in prison and one year probation earlier this week.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth , Piatek moved to Elkhart after he was released from prison in Florida, where he had been jailed on a child molestation charge.

Once in Elkhart, he failed to register as a sex offender and took up housing at the Faith Mission. The shelter also has several families with children staying there.

Piatek was arrested back in February and pleaded guilty to the felony charge.
