A group of Elkhart students received a big sum of cash early Friday morning.

The Crossing Educational Center received a $10,000 check from AT&T. That money will go towards the Crossing’s job training program, equipment and other necessary items to help with future projects.

The program provides an opportunity for students who have dropped out of high school or face an academic challenge to get on a career path, develop life skills and work experience as well as assist in community service.

“We have been overly blessed by organizations in receiving funds because this is such a unique organization,” said Rob Staley, CEO of the Crossing. “We're an organization that not only academic oriented, but we're also job training, job skills program oriented and we're a faith based organization."

AT&T Indiana President George S. Fleetwood and state representative Dale Devon were on hand to present the Crossing with the check.

“Helping students receive the education and professional skills necessary for their future success is one of the best investments any company can make,” said Devon. “AT&T has a long history of investing in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties and we appreciate their partnership to help develop our workforce.”

The Crossing’s team can now focus on cutting a big chunk out of their $450,000 budget and continue to work on meeting their goals.
