Elkhart, Ind. For the 27th year music will fill the streets of Elkhart all weekend long. Yes, we know rain could be in the forecast, but grab that umbrella because you don’t want to miss the Elkhart Jazz Festival 2014.
Official events start Friday at 5 p.m. with a parade. The opening ceremony quickly follows the parade at 5:30 p.m.
David Smith, the Co- Chair of the Elkhart Jazz Festival says he believes there will be more than 100 artists and more than 100 hours of music this weekend. With such a variety there is always something for everyone. Smith says in order to have fun all you have to do is swing, snap and smile.
There are a variety of ticket prices available, but much of the entertainment is free. If you want to check out your favorite group you can get a session pass, those start at $35 or you can get a whole weekend pass if you want.
Ultimately, organizers say it's a great way to get out and have some fun with the family.
“Elkhart is such a neat community because it is about the music, but it’s also about coming together, one time during the summer and rubbing shoulders with your neighbor or seeing people you only see once a year because you are from different states. Just last year, we had 17 states and three countries represented just through ticket buyers,” explains Smith.
For all you tech savvy people, there's a new smartphone app to keep you in the know. All you have to do is search Elkhart Jazz Festival. It's already up and running and its free.
