Tension is running high at a South Bend senior living center after the only active elevator in the building broke down.
On Friday, the elevator at the Sanctuary at Trinity Tower stopped working. Over the past four days dozens of handicapped residents have been stuck in their rooms with no answer from management as to when the lift will be fixed.
NewsCenter 16 tried to speak with management but was kicked off the property.
The complex is nine-stories tall and is located along South St. Joseph St. in downtown South Bend, and it’s the idea of elderly residents walking up and down flights of stairs worrying family members.
"It's just the idea of, if she had a medical emergency, or heaven forbid there was a fire or something, there's nine floors of senior citizens with no elevators," said the family member of one resident.
Other loved ones say this break down follows a three-day shut down last month, in both cases, workers have hand-delivered food and liquids to those unable to leave their rooms.
