ESPN to air BCS Championship Game

Many have called and emailed regarding WNDU-TV not airing the BCS National Championship Game at 8:30 p.m. Monday. Here's the reason why:

In 2008, ESPN bid $500 million for exclusive rights to the BCS National Championship Games from 2011 - 2014. Consequently, WNDU-TV cannot air the game, even if the home team is participating at the national level.

This is similar to NBC maintaining exclusive rights to Notre Dame home games and the summer and winter Olympics, which WNDU-TV airs as an NBC affiliate.

If you do not have cable, we'd recommend one of three things:

1.) Listen to the game on the radio in the comfort of your own home.
2.) Visit a friend's house who has cable and a large couch.
3.) Cozy-up at a local sports bar and enjoy the game with a burger and a brew.

As your home for Notre Dame Football, NewsCenter 16 is airing two special "Countdown To Kickoff" specials Sunday and Monday. Both will air 7 - 8 p.m. live from Miami, Fla. with Jeff Jeffers, Angelo Di Carlo, Chuck Freeby and Gabby Gonzalez.
