Dyngus Day celebrations in South Bend

South Bend, Ind. Monday is a special one in the South Bend area. For more than 80 years, Michiana has been celebrating Dyngus Day.

It is a Polish-American holiday that culminates the end of the Lenten season with the joy of Easter; and in South Bend, there is a political twist. Politicians will be out in full force celebrating at the Democratic and Republican headquarters. Here's a look at the day's events:

St. Joseph County Republican Party

Pancake and Sausage Breakfast
7-10 a.m. at 4133 S. Main St. South Bend
FREE but donations are accepted

Millers Veterans Ceremony at 9 a.m. with political rally to follow

All you can eat Polish sausage supper for $10
5-10 p.m.
Beer and wine will be served

St. Joseph County Democratic Party

Doors open at 9 a.m. (until food runs out)
Cost: $10

South Bend

The intersection of Ford Street and South Warren Street, outside the West Side Democratic and Civic Club, will become Dyngus Day Drive at 10:00 am.

The intersection of West Western Avenue and Laurel Street, outside LaSalle Landing Lodge #298, South Bend Elks, will become Solidarity Day Drive at 10:30 am.

Fiddler's Hearth will offer a sausage special with a toppings and sides bar.
