A Dowagiac teenager will spend at least the next eight years behind bars for his role in the armed robbery of a Pizza Hut delivery driver in April.
That's according to the Niles Daily Star.
18-year-old Michael Smith was sentenced to a minimum of eight years in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit armed robbery.
Smith and three others ordered more than $80 worth of pizza to be delivered to an abandoned home in the 400 block of Thickstun Street in Dowagiac.
When the driver arrived, the group robbed him at gunpoint and forced him to lie on the ground, before taking off in his car and stealing a laptop, cash and other items from inside.
Fortunately, the victim was not injured. Smith later turned himself in and gave up the names of the other suspects.
He was also charged with unlawful imprisonment, larceny from a motor vehicle and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle.
